Wedding nights. Anniversary nights. Prom nights. Graduation nights. And more. Throughout our lives, we have dedicated our nights to big moments and celebrations. But there is one special night that some of us have forgotten to observe.

Our Pastor, Chief Apostle H.C. Gunn, recently shared with us at The Body of Christ, Inc., about how he told God, "LORD, I'M GOING TO GIVE THIS NIGHT TO YOU IN PRAYER." As he set himself to spend quality time with God, the Lord told him that he was excited to be with him. When we invite him in, he rejoices over us with singing!

Chief Apostle Gunn also told us that the Father wanted us to know that he was excited to have a chance to just be with us, as individuals and corporately, in prayer, fasting, and the Word.

How sobering, humbling, and powerful!

When was the last time we did this? Time with God is THE biggest moment and celebration we could ever have in our lives. Sure, we give God our Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for Bible study, but what other times and nights in our week are dedicated just to him?

I watched a children's Bible story with my young nieces and nephews recently, and it talked about how Jesus was able to do such great works and miracles and have the strength, courage, power, and love to die for us because he retreated and dedicated time with God. It also talked about John the Baptist. He was the first prophet in Israel in hundreds of years and the forerunner of Jesus, plus his cousin. Yet he never grew high-minded, exalted himself, or got ahead of God. Why? The children's Bible story talked about how he would steal away and dedicate much time to God. It's just that simple.

Psalm 1:1-3: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Here are some notes I took from Chief Apostle Gunn's message that can help us see how vital dedicating special time to God is.

  • God has not forgotten you, and he gets excited about you, especially when you remember him too.

  • There's so much richness in the Word of God toward you.

  • When you decide to wait on God and his timing, you won't have to complain about life.

  • Celebrate the promise of being forever with him.

  • Too often, we think of God as a punishing God instead of a God who is excited about us and seeking after the "innocent" version of us because we don't know his disposition, which comes from getting to know him in His Word and prayer.

  • Let nothing or nobody compete with God and his time with you.

  • Love God more than what we give most of our time to: Our spouses, our children, our family, our jobs, our lifestyles, our talents and goals, etc.

Joshua 1: 8-9: This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
